We had a mission... late at night (because we are Wassons!)... to rescue this year's Christmas tree. I guess we are late in the season because the trees were definitely already picked over. So, that made the job of finding the "worst" tree much easier. We narrowed it down, then we let Josiah make the final pick. He chose well. The guy at the store gave us a really strange look when we pointed out the tree we wanted to buy. You could tell he was choosing his words carefully and he finally said, "you might want to put this side toward the back"... and then he gave us $10 off the price. It was really that bad.
It was such a delight to hear the boys explain the tradition of rescuing a tree and what it represents. And it's a great reminder of how much we are all in need of rescuing by a savior who is willing to take the worst of us home and "decorate" us with His Son.
A couple of Marley's while we get the tree decorations out...
Before...
After...
(It really looks like a Dr. Suess tree!)
Our tree is still imperfect (aren't we all!)... but now it is special... it is our tree... and it's, well, beautiful - in the eyes of the beholder.
We started advent... here are our advent candles. This is such a fun tradition. This year each boy gets a candle to light every night and we will light the final fourth candle on Christmas day.
