Little bird

This poor little bird ran smack dab into our kitchen window yesterday morning.

The boys rescued it from a circling hawk because it wasn't able to fly just yet.
Shepard loves holding animals... all kinds...  and it's fun to take pictures of him with the animals.  He was thrilled at his chance to hold a bird.

Mom and Dad at the Farm

My parents visited the farm this weekend...  I loved seeing them sitting on the porch swing soaking in the view and the perfect spring day!
Aren't they cute?!?

My favorite GKS story from spring 2013

This is my favorite story story from the sale this time... as it was told to me.  (I sure wish I had seen it!)

On Thursday night during drop-offs, apparently Shepard noticed a military guy there with his family dropping off their stuff to sell. As Shep told me later, he got to thinking about what that guy might have been through and he really just wanted to say “thanks”… but he was a little shy about it, so he decided to just write him a note. Apparently the note said, “Thanks for what you do” – (I wonder how it was actually spelled.) :-)  Anyway, completely unknown to any of us, Shep goes over to the guy and hands him the note and then just went back to what he was doing. A little while later, John noticed the soldier walk right over to Shep and rip the flag patch off his shirt sleeve and hand it to Shep. Shepard was completely surprised and taken aback, but gave the guy a big grin and said “Thanks!!” John didn’t know anything about the note at the time so he couldn’t figure out what was going on… but he said it was a lot like watching that Coke commercial with the football player in the tunnel when the kid runs after him and hands him a coke and then he turns around and throws him his jersey!!
Shepard told me later that flag patch has been a big encouragement to him. He said that whenever he feels like he needs a little encouragement, he just thinks about that flag!

I took this picture after he came to tell me about what had happened.  He was so proud of that flag!

Seeing Shep’s heart and his willingness to show gratefulness to that soldier made me so proud!

GKS Spring 2013

Here are a few pictures from our spring GKS event.  It was a great sale!

John and Josiah setting up computers...

Josiah worked the barcode station again during drop-offs. It's awesome having him there! He knows just what to do and he's great at it.  Megan enjoyed learning to print the barcodes too... so Josiah and Megan worked together quite a bit.

Shepard volunteered to hold doors open for the consignors while they were bringing in their items for drop-off.  That is such a huge help!  He worked quite a lot with Carigan and they had a great time!

Shepard's favorite pasttime when he's not working at the sale is to ride his ripstik there.  He began learning at the last sale in the fall - then spent his hard-earned money to buy his own ripstik and has practiced a lot, so he was ready for this sale.  I'm not good at action shots, but this is kinda cool to see him zooming by...

I'm not sure how Shepard got to draw the winner for the big giveaway from Kids Play...  (he probably just asked the guy if he could do it! :)  )  But here he is drawing the winner...

The Wassons Boys
(Gotta love the blue mustache!  That's just who he is, folks! He is our spark!)

Jessica Meinardus took this picture of the whole family at the sale!

Baby Lambs at the Farm

Several weeks ago we were kidding that our baby lambs would probably be born during the sale...
we were J-O-K-I-N-G!!  But, sure enough, right in the middle of the Growing Kids Sale, John was about to go to the sale one morning and noticed a baby lamb in the field!  Two days later when he went home to build a pen under the eave of the barn to protect the new lamb from the torrential rain in the forecast, he found another newborn lamb...  maybe less than an hour old!  He ended up carrying that one to the barn so that it would stay dry.
We are shepherd NEWBIES, so this was a very exciting week!  These little lambs could not have come at a crazier time for us.  But, they are doing well so far!

Here's our little SHEPARD...

he could hardly wait to get up each morning and go check the lambs!

I'm thinking maybe we call this one "Yoda"! :)

Here's my farmer and shepherd son...

We are definitely learning more lessons about why the Lord refers to us like sheep!
